As the Super Falcons gear up for a crucial showdown against hosts Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, has applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his steadfast support towards the Nigerian women’s national team.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated final match, Majekodunmi lauded Governor Abiodun’s consistent backing, emphasizing that his involvement has positively influenced the team’s morale and performance throughout the tournament.

“Governor Abiodun has shown true commitment to the growth of women’s football in Nigeria,” Majekodunmi said. “His efforts have not gone unnoticed, and they have contributed to the team’s impressive journey to the final.”
He highlighted the governor’s role earlier in the year when Ogun State hosted the Super Falcons for a pre-WAFCON friendly against Cameroon at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta — a match the Falcons won 2-0. Majekodunmi described the event as a morale booster and a strong message of belief in the women’s game.
“That moment was more than just a game,” he noted. “It was a significant gesture that strengthened the team’s resolve and inspired confidence ahead of the tournament.”
Expressing confidence in the Falcons’ chances, the Ogun FA boss stated that the entire state is rallying behind the team, hopeful they will bring home Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
“We are proud of what the Super Falcons have achieved so far,” he said. “With the continued support of Governor Abiodun, the future of women’s football in Ogun State and Nigeria looks even brighter.”
The Super Falcons take on Morocco tonight in Rabat, with hopes high across the nation for another historic triumph on the continental stage.
