Oghene Egwero Takes Blame For Poor Show in AAC 4×100 Relay

After a disappointing performance in the African Athletics Championship in the 4×100 meter men relay race, one of the relay team members, Oghene Egwero has expressed disappointment in his performance and that of the team in general.

Nigeria lost out in a chance of clinching another medal in the competition as they couldn’t live up to expectations. The team which compromises Oghene Egwero, Nicholas Mabilo, Raymond Ekwevwo and Sheye Ogunlewe couldn’t replicate thier achievement in Asaba in the last outing where they made it to the podium for a medal.

Oghene is the most experienced runner in the quartet. Counting his loss, Oghene Egwero puts the team’s poor performance on himself stating that he didn’t perform up to expectations when asked about their performance at the end of the race.

“I felt I could have done more. If I had done a little more in the third leg, we would have been on the podium.” But the sprint star promised a better performance in subsequent events.

Nigeria lost to Ferdinand Omanyala-led team Kenya who set a new national record of 39.28 seconds for the gold medal. The silver medal went to South Africa with a time of 39.79 seconds and Zimbabwe in 39.81 seconds.
