Bayelsa Queens kicked off their 2024-25 NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over fierce South-South rivals, Rivers Angels, on Saturday in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The intense derby clash saw the Prosperity Girls dig deep to secure a crucial opening win, setting the tone for their title push. Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali, who was present to support the team, lauded the players’ effort and discipline.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Igali commended the Queens for their determination, calling the win a testament to their character. “The team showed true grit today. It was a vital victory and well-deserved,” he noted.
He further urged the players to remain focused as they prepare for their next encounter, reminding them that Governor Douye Diri and the entire Bayelsa community are fully behind them.
Bayelsa Queens now turn their focus to Monday’s clash against Nasarawa Amazons—the side that eliminated them from the Federation Cup. Rivers Angels, on the other hand, will look to bounce back when they face Edo Queens on the same day.
