Ali Paulina, the Assistant Captain of Naija Ratels, provided insights into the team’s perspective following their recent 2 – 0 loss to Dannaz Queens at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Wednesday.

Speaking about the loss, Paulina framed it as a catalyst for improvement, stating, “It’s more like a way of us working harder, working on our lapses.

We lost our first match at home, and now we have lost another one away. It is to restrategize and work towards our next match. This one is past. We just have to focus on our lapses.” Paulina told Sports247 in a post-match interview.

Assessing their opponents, who are newcomers to the league, Paulina acknowledged their quality, saying, “Despite them playing in the league for the first time, they are a good side.

That, I must say. We actually played them. You can see from the first 30 minutes we held them at their own half; it’s just that the goals didn’t come. But we’ll work on that.”

Addressing whether the opponents’ performance surprised them, Paulina drew on their own experience, stating, “I am not surprised at their performance.

When we got into the league for the first time, that was how we were, also winning. That spirit is always there. So I will not say I am surprised.”

Regarding their expectations for the match, Paulina emphasized the team’s intention for a clear win, saying, “Our focus was for a clear win because we lost our first match.

A team came from outside to win us in our home, so we came with all intentions for a win, but the tides did not turn in our favour. That’s football, where you either win, lose, or draw.”

Looking ahead, Paulina conveyed a collective commitment to improvement, especially in goal-scoring, stating, “We will work together, myself, the captain, management, players and technical crew will work together on our lapses, especially our goal-scoring.

Because our next match, which will be at home, is a win for us. This is the end of our losing, be it home or away.”

Naija Ratels is anticipating the visit of Adamawa Queens in their next match, where they aspire to turn the tide and secure a victory.
