NWFL: Bayelsa Queens Stuns Edo Queens With 3-0 Victory

Bayelsa Queens on Wednesday 10 January 2024, showed that they are determined to match their ambition of winning 2023/24 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership (NWFL) with the hard work required for the purpose when they beat visiting Edo Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Ovom, Yenagoa, 3-0.

The Prosperity Girls, who were given befitting incentives ahead of the game by Bayelsa State’s Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, came into the match with a very high spirit, but could not get a goal as the first half ended goalless.

Bayelsa Queens maintained their momentum when the second half resumed and took the lead through Chinyere Igboamalu on 47 minutes.

Edo Queens fought to get the leveler, but nine minutes later it was Chinyere Igboamalu again who got the second goal through a long-range shot in the 56th minute and settled the game with a 67-minute strike as she netted a hat-trick.

According to Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Domo Okara “It’s not party time yet because the league is still open and you cannot take it away from Edo Queens, as they are one of the strongest contenders of this league this season as this is the group of death”.

“We are improving in every game as you can see today’s game was better than the last one we played, but it’s still a work in progress as the players have not gotten to the level I want for them”, Okara added.

On his part, Aduku Moses of Edo Queens said: “The goalkeeping department is one of the important areas and I thought I have settled that place, but that has been my problem this season because all the matches we’ve lost is through the goalkeeping department, but we will go back and work on that area”.

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) is going on a two-week break to resume on the 31st of January, 2024.
