NWFL 2022/23 : Heartland Queens Fell 1-3 To Delta In NWFL Premiership Matchup

For the umpteenth time, Heartland Queens failed to break perennial enigmas, Delta Queens in all competitions.

The Owerri side fell 1-3 to the Asaba side in Wednesday’s NWFL Premiership matchday 10 matchup at the mainbowl of Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

The Asaba side therefore achieved 100% superiority over the Owerri landladies in the ongoing 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season. The Asaba side won the first fixture dugouts with two unreplied goals at the Owerri side’s hallowed chambers, Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

It took the Owerri side’s nemesis, Delta Queens just seven minutes of play to reassert their intentions to maintain dominance and of course, keep intact their ambitious unbeaten record in the league.

A defensive blunder on the part of Owerri side’s strong women helped the opposite danger woman, Mercy Omokwo to net the match opener.

Omokwo was on the prowl again in the 18th minute and this time gifted by fumbling and underpressure Heartland Queens’ central defender, Funmilayo Adefuye who strangely turned her legs into her own net.

Omokwo completed her hattrick of the day by once again profiting from a mix up in the opposite defence to beat hapless and unrushing goalkeeper, Osinachi Abani for the final goal of the day in the 62nd minute.

Heartland Queens’ consolation came off the foot of the Owerri side’s midfielder, Favour Dagogo through a well taken free kick just outside the box.

The Owerri bench tried to come back into the fray to no avail as they pulled out lackluster Funmilayo Adefuye for captain, Sharon Oluomachi.

Consolation performer, Favour Dagogo was pulled out almost immediately as her place was taken by Chinedu Chinaka while Ogonna Adim replaced Joy Enamino. The duo of Chinwendu Orji and Mary Okorie gave way for Amaechi Duru and Ezinne Wokocha to complete the dice.

The 1-3 loss had deepened the pressure on Heartland Queens’ climb out from the red circle and perhaps ruined any chance to nip one of the group’s top three spots.

Heartland Queens will be home to the reigning champions, Bayelsa Queens next Wednesday for matchday 11 matchup at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
