Ntiense Williams Hails Wellsprings University’s Rugby Team’s Historic 21-0 Victory In Friendly Match

The head coach of Edo State Rugby Association, Obong Ntiense Williams has hailed the impact created by Wellspring University‘s new team, after they pulled off a historic 21-0 victory in their latest friendly match, Sports247 reports.

The astonishing victory for the Wellspring Warlords came against Edo State’s B team in a curtain-raiser for the university’s matriculation ceremony, before which all eyes were on the encounter at the institution’s sports arena.

Williams, who is fondly called ‘Mr Rugby,’ disclosed in a press release that the event drew top university officials, led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Patrick Ohikhena, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rotimi Ajayi.

Professor Ohikhena expressed surprise at the prominence of women’s rugby in Edo State, which is currently Nigeria’s national champion, and pledged the university’s full support for the sport, which was recently introduced by Williams and his team.

He welcomed more fixtures in the future and then reaffirmed the university’s commitment to rugby, while also citing many values of the sport to the physical and academic development of students at the institution and beyond.

Representing Edo State Sports Commission was the Executive Director of Sports Development, Mrs. Sabina Chikwele, standing in for the chairman, Honourable Desmond Aladin Enabulele, and witnessed all three matches played on the day.

In match one, Wellspring Warlords beat Edo State B Team 21-0; after which Edo State B Team defeated Wellspring Warlords 19-5, and Edo State B Team capped the day with a 12-0 victory over Wellspring Warlords.

Williams disclosed in his celebratory press statement, “The final game had students and staff on their feet, with bone-crunching tackles and crisp passing sparking near pitch invasions from the excited crowd.”
