Nsikak Etim Claims Victory In 2023 MGI Scrabble Grand Slam With Skill and Determination

Former African Champion, Nsikak Etim, displayed his scrabble prowess by defeating Timi Doko with a score of 441 to 400 over five intense rounds, securing the top spot in the 2023 Mindgames Inc. (MGI) Scrabble Grand Slam.

The championship, which took place over three days, featured over 30 elite players from both Nigeria and other countries, engaging in 24 rounds of thrilling games.

In an elated address to his fellow competitors, Nsikak attributed his victory to sheer hard work and unwavering determination. He expressed his appreciation to the event’s organizer, Lukman Owolabi, for creating a platform that allowed players to showcase their scrabble skills.

Toke Aka, the President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, also lauded the contributions of Lukman Owolabi to the growth of Scrabble in Nigeria.

Aka emphasized the federation’s readiness to collaborate with anyone dedicated to elevating the standards of Scrabble in the country.

He further encouraged more sponsors to invest in Scrabble, highlighting Nigeria’s continued excellence in the game on the global stage.

Lukman Owolabi, the convener of the MGI Scrabble Grand Slam, shared his vision of promoting and raising awareness of the sport throughout Nigeria.

He called upon multinational organizations and well-meaning Nigerians to support Scrabble financially, recognizing its untapped growth potential.

Owolabi pledged to make future MGI championships even more enticing and competitive.

For his remarkable victory in the 2023 MGI Scrabble Grand Slam, Nsikak Etim was awarded a grand prize of one million Naira, a prestigious trophy, and an additional one million Naira in cash.

Timi Doko, the second-place finisher, received a well-deserved cash prize of N500,000.

The competition not only showcased exceptional Scrabble talent but also highlighted the passion and dedication of players and organizers to advance the sport in Nigeria.
