Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to discovering and nurturing exceptional sporting talents in the state as it prepares to host the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) from May 16 to 30.
Speaking at a media parley in Abeokuta, the Governor promised to adopt standout athletes during the festival, similar to the support previously extended to world record holder and Commonwealth Games champion, Tobi Amusan. He emphasised Ogun State’s dedication to producing more global stars through consistent investment in sports development.
“The NSF presents a vital platform for talent discovery, and in Ogun, we are fully committed to nurturing young athletes to reach world-class standards,” he stated.
Governor Abiodun also praised the unifying power of sports in Nigeria, noting that sporting events often bring citizens together beyond ethnic and regional lines. “Whenever our national teams play, Nigerians unite behind them. Sports have done more to unite us than anything else, and this year’s NSF will be no different in bringing youths together,” he said.
Looking ahead to the festival, the Governor expressed confidence in the state’s athletes and declared Ogun’s ambition not only to host successfully but also to top the medal table.
