The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially announced the formation of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 3rd edition of the combined African Under-18 and Under-20 Athletics Championships, set to take place from July 16 to 20, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The LOC consists of fifteen highly regarded professionals with proven track records in sports administration and corporate governance, reflecting the NSC’s commitment to organizing a world-class event that meets international standards.

The African U18/U20 Athletics Championship is a premier competition on the continent’s athletics calendar, attracting over 500 young athletes from 53 African nations.
According to a statement released by his media aide, Kola Daniel, NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade will chair the Organising Committee, with Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, serving as Vice Chairman.
Hon. Olopade emphasized that Nigeria’s hosting of the 3rd edition aligns with the renewed vision for sports development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, spotlighting the country as a prime hub for global sporting events.
“This championship enhances our sports economy, boosts hospitality, creates jobs, and promotes infrastructural growth,” Olopade noted.
He credited Ogun State’s success in securing hosting rights to its world-class sports infrastructure, particularly the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, upgraded during the Gateway Games.
“The facilities in Abeokuta are top-tier, and this hosting opportunity is one of the dividends of organizing the National Sports Festival. I sincerely thank Governor Dapo Abiodun for his forward-thinking approach to sports development,” he added.
