The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) is ramping up its grassroots development agenda with the launch of another TI Coaching Training Program, set to hold in Abuja from October 23 to 25, 2025.
The three-day intensive course is part of NRFF’s ongoing mission to strengthen rugby’s technical foundations in Nigeria by empowering young and aspiring coaches with globally recognized coaching skills and methodologies.

Participants from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to attend, marking one of the most extensive nationwide coaching initiatives in the federation’s recent history.
To qualify, attendees must have completed the World Rugby Ready course — a prerequisite designed to promote safety, best practices, and risk management in contact sports. They are also required to complete two key modules:
Concussion Management for the General Public, focusing on proper care and recovery protocols for players suffering head injuries; and
Safeguarding Essentials, which introduces child protection and welfare principles, teaching coaches how to identify and address potential safeguarding issues.
According to Wuraola Hussaini, a World Rugby–certified instructor, the TI course is a crucial step in translating theory into hands-on coaching expertise.
“This training bridges the gap between knowledge and application. It’s about ensuring coaches can practically implement what they’ve learned, which is essential for rugby’s sustainable growth in Nigeria,” Hussaini explained.
NRFF President, Dr. Ademola Are, commended World Rugby and Rugby Africa for their continuous partnership and stressed the federation’s focus on structured, internationally aligned coaching programs.
“Our vision is clear — to raise coaches who are globally competent and technically grounded,” Dr. Are said. “We’re building the foundation for rugby’s long-term development in Nigeria, and proper coaching is the bedrock of that ambition.”
The initiative underscores NRFF’s broader commitment to professionalizing rugby coaching, enhancing safety awareness, and nurturing a new generation of skilled coaches who can elevate the game at both grassroots and elite levels.
With this program, the NRFF is not just training coaches — it’s laying the groundwork for a new era of technical excellence and sustainable rugby growth across Nigeria.
