A board member of Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), Wuraola Hussain has hailed all coaches who continue playing key roles in developing female players for the sport in Nigeria.
Sports247 reports that ‘Coach Wura’ also showered accolades on all rugby tacticians who took part in the NRFF’s recent youth development programme tagged Rugby Rising, which she said was highly successful.

She also disclosed that the rugby development programme attracted a total of 5,000 girls among the participants, who all engaged in various intensive training sessions throughout February.
Hussain took another look at the journey so far and, while noting that the programme eventually ended last weekend, she acknowledged that many young participants were fully involved across the country.
She noted further that the participants took part in all the activities with a lot of enthusiasm, which helped in raising so much hope regarding increased interest among Nigeria’s females to feature as rugby players.
Sports247 gathered further that the four-month training programme, which was supervised by Hussain and facilitated with the assistance of 30 coaches nationwide, kicked off in November and officially ended last week.
A press release by the NRFF’s media contact, Tolu Oguntimehin disclosed that the programme took the sport to a nunber of Nigerian schools and academies, based on guidelines set by the global sanctioning body, World Rugby.
Oguntimehin added that the effort has greatly improved the acceptance of rugby among young girls in Nigeria and disclosed that Hussain was particularly delighted with how all the coaches gave the project their total dedication.
Hussain noted that their commitment helped to expand the game into previously unreached areas, then stressed that women’s rugby now has a strong footing in Nigeria, due to growing interest among young players.
