NPFL: KWARA UNITED STUNNED ENYIMBA IN ILORIN

A superb header by Usman Mohammed midway into the second half denied Enyimba a share of the spoils as Kwara United came from behind to claim a famous 3-2 win in a dramatic Nigeria Professional Football League match at the Illorin Township Stadium.

The visitors took the lead in the sixteenth minute when Ibrahim Mustapha lashed a spectacular volley from 30 yards into the right corner after receiving a chip from Benin international, Jean-Marie Guera.

The People’s Elephant however could not defend the lead for long as Segun Alebiosu drew Kwara level with an individual effort right after the half hour.

Abdulrahaman Bashir had the chance to restore Enyimba’s lead shortly after, but fired wide from range after being set up by Mustapha, to ensure the teams went into the break at par.

Usman Abd’Allah effected the first change of the game four minutes after the restart, replacing Serge-Paul Atangana with Dare Olatunji as both sides pushed for an advantage.

It was the seven-times champions that soon had their noses back in front, this time from the spot as Joseph Osadiaye converted from 12 yards following a foul on Guera inside the box.

But the hosts produced another another quick response a couple of minutes later, with the impressive Alebiosu benefiting from a defensive mix-up to net his brace.

Mohammed then completed the comeback barely three minutes after coming off the bench with a powerful header that beat Fatau Dauda.

The result represents Enyimba’s first loss to Kwara United in the league in almost five years.

The People’s Elephant will return to the Enyimba Stadium to host Lobi Stars in their next NPFL match in three days.
