Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Davidson Owunmi, has revealed that the league body has prepared two trophies ahead of the dramatic conclusion of the 2025/26 NPFL season.
The title race will be decided on the final day of the campaign on Sunday, with Enugu Rangers and Rivers United still in contention for the league crown.

League leaders Rangers will travel to Lagos to face Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, while Rivers United will host Katsina United in Port Harcourt.
Speaking ahead of the decisive fixtures, Owunmi disclosed that the NPFL has stationed trophies in both Lagos and Port Harcourt to ensure a smooth coronation ceremony regardless of where the title is won.
“We don’t have a replica; we have two trophies. One trophy goes to Lagos and the other goes to Port Harcourt,” Owunmi said during a radio interview.
“We already have a podium set up in Lagos, while the one in Port Harcourt is being arranged. Everything that is in Lagos will be replicated in Port Harcourt. Whichever centre the title is decided, we are fully prepared.”
The 2025/26 campaign marks the first time in more than a decade that the NPFL title race will be decided on the final day in a regular league format, adding excitement and tension to the season finale.
Football fans around the world are familiar with leagues transporting trophies across different venues on decisive final days, but the NPFL organisers have opted to deploy two original trophies as part of preparations for Sunday’s historic showdown.
Rangers, eight-time Nigerian champions, currently hold a slight advantage heading into the final round, while
Rivers United remain hopeful of overturning the deficit and clinching the title on home soil in Port Harcourt.
