The Nigeria Super League produced another round of thrilling T20 cricket action on Thursday as Central Eagles claimed a dramatic one-run victory over Middle-Belt Tigers in Match 8, while Northern Lions secured a dominant five-wicket win over Western Dolphins in Match 7 to confirm their place in the playoffs.
Central Eagles Survive Late Scare Against Middle-Belt Tigers
Central Eagles held their nerve in a tense finish to defeat Middle-Belt Tigers by just one run in one of the most dramatic encounters of the tournament so far.

After being sent in to bat by Tigers skipper Sulaimon Runsewe, Central Eagles posted 111/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Moshood Mohammed anchored the innings with a patient 42 off 52 balls, while Peter Aho added a useful 22 from 17 deliveries.
Middle-Belt Tigers bowlers kept things tight throughout the innings, with Prosper Useni and Chima Akachukwu claiming three wickets each, while Runsewe also impressed with figures of 2/12.
In response, the Tigers fell agonisingly short, finishing on 110/9 after 20 overs. Elijah Olaleye led the chase with 40 runs off 52 balls, while Runsewe contributed 24 from 23 deliveries.
Central Eagles’ disciplined bowling attack proved decisive in the closing stages, with Prosper Useni and Chima Akachukwu’s efforts ultimately not enough to take the Tigers over the line.
The narrow victory further highlighted the competitive nature of the inaugural Nigeria Super League, with fans treated to clutch wickets, tense moments and late drama at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos.
Northern Lions Continue Unbeaten Run
Earlier in Match 7, Northern Lions extended their impressive unbeaten streak with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Western Dolphins.
Western Dolphins struggled against the Lions’ disciplined bowling attack after choosing to bat first, eventually getting bowled out for 83 in 15.4 overs.
Oluwaseyi Adegboye top-scored with 16 runs off 25 balls, while Sesan Adedeji added 11 from eight deliveries. Akhere Isesele starred with the ball for Northern Lions, taking four wickets, while Ridwan Kareem chipped in with two scalps.
Chasing a modest target, Northern Lions reached 86/5 in just 12.2 overs.
Saturday Elijah led the charge with a composed 40 off 32 balls, while Sylvester Okpe contributed 16 from 14 deliveries.
Monday Elijah and Sesan Adedeji claimed two wickets each for Western Dolphins, but the Lions comfortably crossed the finish line to maintain their dominance in the competition.
The victory marked Northern Lions’ third consecutive win of the tournament, making them the first team to qualify for the Nigeria Super League playoffs.
Having already defeated Southern Sharks and Central Eagles earlier in the tournament, Northern Lions have now firmly established themselves as one of the favourites for the inaugural title.
