An unusual situation unfolded in England on Saturday, with two Nigerian-born players at the centre of a dramatic incident, as Bukayo Saka got injured while warming up and had to be replaced by Noni Madueke.
Sports247 reports that Madueke went ahead to get involved in two goals for The Gunners against Leeds United, after stepping in for Saka, who was forced out of the starting line-up due to a last-minute injury.
The 24-year-old Saka was in line to start on the right-hand side of Arsenal’s attack at Elland Road, but his sudden withdrawal with a suspected hip issue led to a rare start for Madueke in his place.
The withdrawal also resulted in Christian Norgaard being promoted to the bench, despite initially making the trip only as an extra man, and Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta will be desperately hoping that Saka recovers fast.
Nonetheless, Arsenal won the game 4-0 to go seven points clear on top of the English Premier League table, after going in front courtesy of a header by Martin Zubimendi from Madueke’s cross.
Arsenal doubled their advantage when Karl Darlow punched Madueke’s corner into his own net just before half-time, after which Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus got a goal each in the second-half.
