NNL Super 8 Heads to Asaba as Governor Oborevwori Backs Tournament Hosting

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has officially announced Asaba, the Delta State capital, as the host city for the 2025 NNL Super 8, set to take place from July 5 to 8 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium. The highly anticipated event will determine the overall champion of the 2024/2025 NNL season and the four clubs to be promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The announcement was made following approval by the Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose backing has further reaffirmed the state’s position as a stronghold for sporting excellence in Nigeria.

“We are happy to announce that the sports-loving Governor of Delta State, Hon. Oborevwori, has given approval for the hosting of the NNL Super 8 in Asaba. We’re grateful for this kind gesture, which will further cement Delta State’s status as a leading sporting state,” the NNL board said in an official statement.

The eight clubs vying for promotion include Warri Wolves, Osun United, Crown FC, Kun Khalifa FC of Owerri, Wikki Tourists, Yobe Desert Stars, Doma FC, and Barau FC. Each team will battle for one of the four coveted promotion slots to the NPFL.

NNL Chairman, Mr. George Aluo, expressed confidence in the quality of competition expected at the tournament. He assured fans of thrilling football action and emphasized that all eight teams are capable of securing promotion.

“There will be no dull moment. Football lovers will witness top-tier artistry throughout the Super 8. All the teams have what it takes to play in the NPFL next season,” Aluo stated.

He also revealed that the league board, in partnership with the Delta State government, is working to ensure seamless logistics and an overall successful tournament experience.

With Asaba’s growing reputation for successfully hosting major sporting events, all eyes will be on the Delta State capital as it stages the final showdown of Nigeria’s second-tier league.
