The Nigeria National League (NNL) has announced a sweeping new directive requiring every club in the division to establish and maintain a fully functional Feeder Team or Academy—a move designed to transform player development and strengthen long-term club stability across the league.
The policy, confirmed by the League’s leadership and anchored in Article 6:9.1 of the NNL’s official regulations, is not advisory but compulsory, making youth development a core condition for club participation and annual registration.

NNL Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Danlami, emphasized that the directive addresses a critical gap in Nigeria’s football development pathway.
He noted that properly structured Feeder Teams offer young players the opportunity to receive systematic training, refine their abilities, and progress within a professional setup—creating a direct, reliable pipeline into senior squads.
According to him, this policy delivers dual value: nurturing emerging talent while protecting clubs from instability linked to squad depth issues, poor succession planning, and inconsistent player supply.
As part of the rollout, the NNL has instructed all clubs to immediately submit full details of their Feeder Team players to the Secretariat.
The data will form the league’s official youth directory and serve as a verification system to prevent identity manipulation and ensure transparency in player movement.
Recognizing that some clubs may still lack established youth systems, the NNL has issued a strict one-month compliance window for full implementation. Clubs failing to meet the deadline risk breaching league registration requirements.
The directive marks one of the league’s boldest administrative reforms in recent years, signaling a clear commitment to raising professional standards, deepening talent pipelines, and enhancing the competitive integrity of Nigeria’s second-tier league.
