Another shower of accolades has been splashed on National Institute for Sports (NIS) director-general/chief executive officer, Comrade Philip Shaibu, with the latest coming from the vice-chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie (SAN).
Sports247 gathered that Professor Omoregie showered encomiums on Shaibu during a ceremony to officially unveil a memorandum of understanding between both institutions for the training of administrators through National Diploma, certificate programmes and coaching courses.
The agreement is expected to see both institutions work together to produce professionals for sports management and the emergence of a new generation of trained administrators, while also opening wider opportunities for research, advanced training and capacity building.
While hailing Shaibu’s transformative efforts since taking over the helm of affairs at NIS, Omoregie added that a key part of the new arrangement is the introduction of a degree programme in Sports Administration at UNIBEN, which will offer a higher academic route into the sector.
He pointed out that effective administration is critical to sports development, while professional training is necessary for progress to be achieved from the grassroots, through programmes that enhance talent identification, running of organisations and staging competitions.
“The transformation at the National Institute for Sports under the leadership of the Director-General is remarkable and commendable. It shows a clear commitment to repositioning the Institute and strengthening sports education and professional development,” Omoregie noted.
