Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike has secured his place at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, after earning qualification through the updated World Rankings.
The 21-year-old sprinter booked his ticket in the men’s 200m event, following a strong season that has seen him rise steadily in global standings.

Onwuzurike, who has been one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers on the track this year, delivered a breakthrough performance at the Diamond League meet in Brussels, where he placed third in the men’s 200m.
That result, coupled with his consistent form throughout the season, helped cement his position among the top athletes bound for Tokyo.
The Nigerian speedster currently holds the highest ranking among his compatriots in the men’s 200m, with a Season’s Best time of 20.17 seconds.
His steady progression reflects his growing status on the international stage, as he continues to establish himself among the world’s elite sprinters.
Looking ahead, Onwuzurike will feature in his second Diamond League appearance this season at the Zurich leg of the circuit.
There, he will face stiff competition against reigning world champion Noah Lyles of the United States and Botswana’s rising star Letsile Tebogo, both regarded as favorites in the 200m discipline.
For Onwuzurike, qualifying for Tokyo represents another milestone in his budding career.
