Nigeria’s under-18 handball national team will this Friday travel out of the country to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where they will participate in a continental cadet championship.
Sports247 reports that the teenage boys’ team coached by Abdulhakim Yakubu will represent Nigeria at the 22nd Africa Men’s Cadet Handball Championship in Abidjan.
Yakubu’s team are drawn in Group B along with Tunisia, Algeria and Madagascar at the championship, which is scheduled to take place from next Tuesday until September 22nd.
Players selected by the coach include Shaibu Friday Micheal, Chikelu Chidiebere Divine, Micheal Godstime, Mohammad Akibu, Umar Usman, Abdulkadir Huzaifa, Mohammed Shuaibu and Rufai Aliyu.
Others are Akunebu Godswill Obieze Uzoma, Sani Abdulrahman, Mohammed Zukiflu and Fashogbon Sulaimon Abayomi, in a squad that also has Ayo Joshua as the assistant coach.
Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) press officer and media commission vice-chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka Akisi added: “The team will travel to Abidjan on Friday to allow the players settle in and prepare adequately before hostilities commence next Tuesday.”
