The 57-year-old minister, hailing from the Agbokim Waterfall community of Cross River State, disclosed that he once pursued a football career, drawing on this experience to emphasize his competence in his new role.

Taking over the reins from Honourable Sunday Dare, John Enoh is now the 36th Nigerian Minister of Sports. He spoke openly about his prior engagement with football, which he believed underscored his qualifications for his current position.

Enoh acknowledged his footballing past and shared that former teammates reached out to remind him of their shared playing days upon hearing of his appointment.

Setting the record straight, Enoh clarified that his ascent to the role of Sports Minister was not the result of lobbying, but rather a recognition by President Bola Tinubu of his capability to drive progress in Nigeria’s sporting arena.

Enoh dismissed the notion that active participation in sports is a prerequisite for being a sports minister.

He emphasized that leadership, transparency, sector understanding, and the ability to reposition sports in the country were the crucial attributes for the role, all of which he was confident in delivering.

Embracing his new role wholeheartedly, Enoh officially assumed office and wasted no time in immersing himself in his duties. His inaugural task involved a visit to the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, where he engaged with officials of the Ministry.

Enoh’s proactive approach to his position signals his commitment to not only his portfolio but also his dedication to driving positive change within the realm of Nigerian sports.

As John Enoh steps into the shoes of Sports Minister, his footballing past adds a unique dimension to his leadership.

With a clear vision to transform and elevate Nigerian sports, Enoh’s tenure holds the promise of renewed vigor and a strategic approach to ushering in a new era of athletic excellence in the nation.
