Nigeria’s Justin Adozi makes Borussia Mönchengladbach II debut in Regionalliga clash

Nigerian-descended striker Justin Adozi Chukwudi made his competitive debut for Borussia Mönchengladbach II at the weekend, coming off the bench in the Regionalliga West fixture against Schalke 04 II which ended in a 4–2 defeat for the Foals.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined Gladbach’s U23 squad in June from Sportfreunde Siegen, was introduced in the 80th minute and used his short time on the pitch to demonstrate attacking drive, strong positioning and willingness to lead the line. Although the result went against his side, Adozi’s cameo offered encouraging signs of his potential as a traditional centre forward with physical presence and mobility.

Standing at 1.93 metres, Adozi brings a mix of height, pace and strength that Gladbach coaches believe can be developed into a potent attacking threat. Reports from his youth career highlighted his ability to play as a target man and stretch defences with well-timed runs in behind. His versatility in leading transitions or holding up play adds value to Mönchengladbach II, who are looking to climb the Regionalliga standings this season.

Born in Germany to Nigerian roots, Adozi is eligible to represent both nations at international level, a prospect that could become significant if he continues his progression. Gladbach insiders have described him as a “project player” with long-term upside, and the club’s U23 coach Eugen Polanski is expected to hand him more minutes as he adapts to the higher intensity of fourth-tier German football.

For now, the young striker’s immediate task will be to secure regular playing time, sharpen his finishing and help Borussia Mönchengladbach II in a highly competitive Regionalliga West campaign. With his profile and promise, many are tipping Adozi as one to watch in the coming months, with the possibility of breaking closer to Bundesliga opportunities in the future.
