Nigeria’s Female Volleyball National Team’s Camp Opens In Abuja Ahead Of African Women’s Nations Championship

Nigeria’s women’s volleyball national team’s camp came alive on Monday, as players, coaches, and officials trooped in to commence preparations ahead of the forthcoming continental championship scheduled to hold in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 23rd to September 5th.

Sports247 reports that 26 players are expected at the camp inside the hostels of Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, along with the technical crew of Elishama Elam (head coach), Segun Abinde (assistant coach), and Sunday Akapson (setters trainer).

Also invited to the team ahead of the 2026 African Women’s Nations Championship are three foreign-based players – Ijeoma Ukpabi (RRA of Rwanda), Mmesoma Okekearu (Kanoa Laulea’s Fukuoka of Japan) and Aisha Bello (NU Lady Bulldogs of Philippines).

The other 23 players, who all feature in the domestic CGC Volleyball Premier League, include three setters – Sharon Achi (NSCDC), Enewa Odoh (Vipers) and Aisha Umar (NCS) – as well as three opposites – Kelechi Ndukauba (NCS), Albertina Francis (NSCDC) and Christiana Paul (COAS).

The squad also has six middle blockers in Deborah Sunday (COAS), Joy Owoniyi (Vipers), Chioma Nwangwu (Olalomi), Sarah Sanda (NAF), Ganiyat Lateef (COAS) and Aisha Bello (NU Lady Bulldogs, Philippines) as well as three liberos – Jummai Biturs (CNS), Bethel Nworie (NCS) and Miriam Usman (NCS)

Ten outside hitters complete the roster – Ijeoma Ukpabi (RRA Rwanda), Happy Wushilang (NSCDC), Ozioma Nwafor (CNS), Melody Headman (Olalomi), Maryam Ibrahim (NCS), Verity Onyegwu (NCS), Deborah Chukwu (COAS), Mmesoma Okekearu (Kanoa Laulea’s Fukuoka, Japan), Aisha Abdulraheem (NCS) and Precious Terseer (NCS).
