Representing Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), Ekpenyong’s stellar performance throughout the 2024 season has earned him widespread acclaim.

The 19-year-old standout was instrumental in leading OLLU to its first-ever appearance in the NAIA National Championships final — a feat that has now etched both his name and that of the university into college tennis history.

His consistent dominance on the court, unmatched agility, and clinical shot-making have not only elevated his personal status but also brought increased attention to the growing influence of Nigerian athletes in international collegiate sports.

“This is a proud moment for David, for OLLU, and for Nigerian tennis,” said Coach Sal Castillo of OLLU. “His discipline, humility, and sheer passion for the game have taken him to this well-deserved milestone.”

David Ekpenyong, a key member of Nigeria’s Davis Cup team, has long been regarded as one of the country’s brightest tennis prospects.

His rise to the top of the NAIA rankings marks a significant personal achievement and an inspiration to aspiring athletes across Africa.
