Nigeria’s Cycling Federation Set To Unveil 51 Cyclists For This Month’s Dual Championships In Abuja

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) is about to unveil a roster of 51 cyclists that will represent the country at two impending continental championships billed to hold from May 9th to 17th in Abuja.

Sports247 gathered that the list will comprise Nigeria’s representatives for both the 3rd CAC Para-Track and 12th Track African Championships, which are scheduled to take place back-to-back inside Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome.

This was disclosed by the CFN’s technical director, Bashir Mohammed, who thanked National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade for approving CFN’s budget for both competitions.

Mohammed said, “Team Nigeria will be represented by 17 cyclists in the Para-Track while the Track Championship will have 10 elite men, six elite women, six junior boys, six junior girls, three male, three female in the B-Class and five in the C 1-5 category.”

On his part, CFN secretary-general, Joel Akinluwa disclosed that the 3rd CAC Para-Track Championship will hold from May 9th to 11th while the 12th Track African Championship follows two days later – May 13th to 17th.

“South Africa are coming with 27 cyclists, Kenya 21, Zimbabwe 5, and Algeria with 21. We don’t know how many cyclists Ghana and Benin Republic would be coming with. Team Nigeria’s list will be released in a few days,” said Akinluwa.
