Young Nigerian winger Omale Matthew has signed his first professional contract with Israeli side Maccabi Ironi Qiryat Ata, making the leap from grassroots football in Edo State to the European stage.
Matthew, a product of Dynamo Football Academy in Edo, was discovered earlier this year during a scouting tournament in Jos. The event, organized by Enoch Muftwang, a FIFA-licensed agent and son of Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang, provided the platform that ultimately secured the youngster’s move abroad.

The highly rated winger, known for his blistering pace and technical flair, impressed scouts with his performances at the tournament and was quickly earmarked for an overseas opportunity.
His transfer to Maccabi Ironi Qiryat Ata is seen as a major breakthrough in his budding career.
Speaking after signing, Matthew expressed gratitude and determination: “This is a dream come true. I am grateful to everyone who believed in me, especially my coaches at Dynamo Academy and my agent for opening this door. Now it’s time to work hard, adapt, and prove myself in Israel.”
Maccabi Ironi Qiryat Ata, competing in the Liga Leumit, Israel’s second division, are strengthening their squad as they aim for top-flight promotion. The club believes Matthew’s energy and direct attacking style will add a new dimension to their play.
For Nigerian football, Matthew’s move highlights the increasing opportunities for young talents to break into European leagues through structured scouting and grassroots development.
As he takes his first steps in professional football, Matthew is determined to make his mark and inspire other young players back home in Nigeria.
