Former Morak FC of Delta State graduate Gideon Erewa made an immediate impact for new club FK Velké Hamry, scoring on his debut in their 2-1 defeat to Slovan Liberec B in the Czech Česká fotbalová liga, Group B.
The Nigerian forward announced himself in style by finding the back of the net with a well-taken finish, opening his personal account for Velké Hamry in his first appearance for the club.
Although his goal was not enough to prevent defeat, Erewa delivered an encouraging performance and showed plenty of promise as he began his new chapter in Czech football.
For the former Morak FC youngster, scoring on his debut provides an early confidence boost and could prove to be the foundation for an impressive campaign.
Erewa’s journey from grassroots football in Delta State to competing in the Czech Republic is another example of the pathway Nigerian young talents are increasingly taking in pursuit of professional football opportunities in Europe.
Speaking after his first appearance, Erewa said:
“Scoring on my first game is something I will always appreciate, but the result is what matters most. We wanted the three points and unfortunately we couldn’t get them. I will take the positives, keep working and make sure I become even better in the games ahead.”
The forward will now be looking to build on his promising debut, with more opportunities expected as the Czech season progresses.
For Velké Hamry, Erewa’s arrival could provide another attacking option capable of making a difference in the final third.
