Nigerian Football Glory Days Set To Returns – Jose Peseiro Vows

Nigeria Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has stated his desire to win next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and “bring back that joy” to Nigerian football.

The Portuguese coach made these statements to Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development on Wednesday. In his words:

“I came here for one goal; I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians. I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players. I have followed Nigeria’s history in football from 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again.”

“Nigeria is top 5 when it comes to football in Africa. I want to say I appreciate the minister and the Football Federation for this opportunity to lead the national team. I will work round the clock to ensure we achieve as much success as possible and the journey starts now”.

Peseiro’s first two games in charge of Nigeria ended in 2-1 and 1-0 friendly losses to Mexico and Ecuador, respectively. The 62-year-old will be desperate to get his first win in his first competitive game against Sierra Leone. The Super Eagles will face the Leone Stars at the Abuja National Stadium later today to kick off their 2023 AFCON qualification campaign.
