It was different strokes for three Nigerian-born players in the UEFA Nations League, as Bayern Munich of Germany dazzler, Michael Olise scored for France, Liverpool’s Ngumoha was dropped from England’s squad and Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu got injured in action for Denmark.
Sports247 reports that, while Olise looked stunning off the bench for France away to Belgium, Dorgu bowed out in agony and had to be sent back to his club from international duty after he copped a knock in Denmark’s 2-0 win over Wales.
“He has an injury and has to go home. A new one has to be called in,” Denmark’s coach, Brian Riemer told TV2 after the 21-year-old Dorgu, who can play as a left winger, left back or wing back, was forced off during the first half, while appearing to hold the back of his thigh.
The development could be a huge setback for Dorgu, who has appeared in all five of United’s English Premier League games this season, including getting an assist on Matheus Cunha’s equaliser as a late substitute during a 1-1 draw away to Fulham in their last game.
On the other hand, Olise got off the bench to give France a 1-0 win over Belgium with a moment of late magic on Monday night, as he decided the game in the 88th minute, taking Les Bleus’ unbeaten streak away to six games while ending their hosts’ six-match unbeaten run at home.
Sports247 reports further that Olise’s night of magic came two days after Liverpool’s Nigerian-born winger, Rio Chima Ngumoha had to be dropped from England’s matchday squad that lost to Spain at Wembley because UEFA rules allow only 23 players for such fixtures.
