Louisiana State University (LSU) American football star, Princewill Umanmielen has been hit with a law suit by his former school, University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) on allegations of failing to meet clauses in his contract with their team, Sports247 reports.
Ole Miss are seeking compensation from Umanmielen, who was previouly a top player with University of Nebraska’s Cornhuskers football team in USA’s National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Big Ten Conference.
The LSU’s sack leader was served legal papers related to a July lawsuit filed by the University of Mississippi which alleges that The Rebels’ former edge rusher owes Ole Miss $550,000 because of his decision to transfer to Louisiana State’s Tigers.
Papers filed at Lafayette County Circuit Court in Mississippi indicate that the suit was served on Tuesday, five days before LSU’s visit to Ole Miss in a grudge game that has also been heightened by Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave his coaching job at Mississippi and join LSU.
Although that hapoened in November last year, tension continues brewing between both sides and the issue of Umanmielen added fire to the scenario, as he allegedly failed to compensate Ole Miss for his departure as required by revenue-sharing agreements signed in January.
A report by ESPN revealed, “Princewill Umanmielen was officially served papers in Ole Miss’ lawsuit against him. And those papers arrived just days before Umanmielen returns to Oxford as a member of LSU’s football team.
“The Tigers’ edge rusher was served outside the LSU football facility on Tuesday. Ole Miss had filed suit against Umanmielen and former offensive lineman Devin Harper this summer after the two had followed coach Lane Kiffin to LSU.
“Ole Miss officials requested payment from Harper and Umanmielen on January 16 and January 22, respectively, according to a timeline provided in July. Neither player responded within the 30-day deadline to make the payment.
“Umanmielen and Harper were served with a summons on August 14 and didn’t respond within the 30-day window. The school accuses both Harper and Umanmielen of breaking the revenue-sharing contracts they signed with Ole Miss in January.
“According to the suit, both players signed new deals with Ole Miss in early January, when the Rebels were alive in the College Football Playoff.
However, both players entered the transfer portal in the days after Ole Miss’ loss to Miami in the semifinals and joined Kiffin at LSU.”
