Officials of Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) are bracing for a very busy spell in the coming month, as the second half of the 2026 season is set to commence in May with series of activities on the domestic and international scenes.
Sports247 reports that the month of May will witness Nigerian players involved in two major competitions, as they contest at MGI International Classic in the United Kingdom and Causeway Challenge in Thailand.
On the domestic level, Scrabblemania 4.0 will hold central attention in Lagos mid-May, amidst expectations that the second half of the year will also see the NSF live up to its promise to put strong emphasis on youth development and elite competition.
Officials noted that, with activities spread across grassroots, elite and international levels, the 2026 calendar reflects talent development, expansion of competitive opportunities and sustaining Nigeria as a powerhouse in global scrabble.
The NSF added, “Nigerian prospects will feature at the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Kenya in August, alongside appearances at the National Youth Games in Delta State while the Nigeria Open is slated for late September.
“October and November will be dominated by high-profile tournaments, including the Africa Scrabble Championship in Liberia, Lekki Scrabble Classics, Kano Opens, and Nigeria’s representation at the prestigious WESPA Open in Malta.
“The season, which kicked off with the NSF Technical Refresher Course online from January 24 to March 30, is set to wrap up with Scrabblemania 5.0 in Liberia and several yet-to-be-finalised regional and national events.”
