President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has provided fresh details from the high-level meeting held between Patrice Motsepe and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Nairobi.
Speaking on the outcome of the discussions, Gusau revealed that the talks focused heavily on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and the Confederation of African Football.
“We discussed many important areas,” he said.
According to the NFF president, one of the key topics was Nigeria’s potential return to hosting major continental football tournaments and events.
“Nigeria is ready to host again,” he implied.
Gusau also confirmed that discussions included plans around sports infrastructure development across the country.
“Infrastructure was part of the talks,” he noted.
In a major development, the NFF boss revealed that President Tinubu approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 CAF Annual General Assembly as well as the CAF Awards ceremony.
“The approval has been given,” he added.
For the federation, hosting such events would represent a significant boost for Nigeria’s football image and administrative influence within Africa.
“It’s a big opportunity,” Gusau stressed.
He also emphasized that stronger collaboration with CAF could open doors for more football investments and development initiatives in Nigeria.
“We want growth,” he said.
Nigeria has previously hosted major football events successfully, and there is growing ambition to return to the center of continental football activities.
For Gusau, the message is clear.
Nigeria wants to lead again.
Infrastructure must improve.
And African football partnerships are becoming stronger.
Because football development goes beyond the pitch, it also involves vision, influence, and international cooperation.
