Nigeria Hockey President Simon Nkom Confident of Podium Finish at African Championship

    As the countdown to the 2025 African Hockey Championship in Egypt continues, President of the Hockey Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Simon Nkom, has expressed strong confidence that both the men’s and women’s national teams are ready to make the country proud.

    Nkom, speaking ahead of the tournament in Ismailia (October 11–18), said the teams have undergone rigorous preparations and are mentally ready to challenge for medals. “Our goal is clear — we want to improve on our last outing and fight for the title,” he said.

    The men’s team, which finished third in 2022, will be seeking to surpass that record, while the women’s team aims to reach the final for the first time in history. “We have the talent, and with the right execution, this could be our best-ever championship,” Nkom added.

    He credited the Federation’s comprehensive preparation plan for ensuring that both teams were properly equipped. “We’ve worked on conditioning, tactics, and exposure. The players know what’s expected of them,” he said.

    Nkom also praised the Ministry of Sports for its support and appealed for continued investment in grassroots hockey development to sustain Nigeria’s rise on the continent.
