With 23 gold, 23 silver, and 42 bronze medals, Nigeria emerged as the overall best-performing nation in a tournament that drew top para-athletes from across West and Central Africa.
Participating nations included Ghana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin Republic, and Burkina Faso.
The championship also served as a regional qualification event for the upcoming Para Games in September, further boosting Nigeria’s chances of securing more continental berths.
President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, Sunday Odebode, attributed the successful hosting of the event to the proactive backing of the National Sports Commission (NSC), lauding the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade for their strategic investment in Nigeria’s sporting infrastructure.
“The NSC is proving that Nigeria can be a prime destination for international competitions. Their financial and moral support enabled us to host this world-class event, and our athletes have made the nation proud,” Odebode said.
He also extended appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its logistical support and hospitality throughout the tournament.
The championship, sponsored by ValueJet, showcased not only Nigeria’s athletic excellence but also the country’s readiness to host international events—an encouraging sign for the broader development of para sports and the drive toward a sustainable sports economy in the country.
