Team Nigeria wrapped up an impressive outing at the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 by securing a place in the groundbreaking World Athletics Ultimate Championship and leaving Botswana with a total of four qualification tickets.
The Nigerian mixed 4x100m relay team delivered when it mattered most, finishing sixth in the final to automatically qualify for the Ultimate Championship scheduled for Budapest later this year.

Their performance also ensured Nigeria stands as the only African nation to secure an automatic ticket in the mixed 4x100m event.
The newly introduced Ultimate Championship, set to take place in Budapest, will feature the world’s top track and field athletes in a high-stakes, fast-paced format, with all events decided in straight finals.
Nigeria’s campaign in Gaborone proved highly productive overall.
In addition to the Ultimate Championship qualification, Team Nigeria secured three tickets for the 2027 World Athletics Championships, 4×400 mixed relay, 4×100 women, 4×100m mixed Relay, through strong performances across relay events
The qualification pathway from Gaborone rewards the top six teams in each final, making Nigeria’s sixth-place finish in the mixed 4x100m a crucial milestone in their international athletics calendar.
With four major qualification tickets secured, three for the World Championships and one for the Ultimate Championship.
Team Nigeria leaves Gaborone with renewed momentum and growing confidence ahead of future global competitions.
