Sports247 reports that Alhaji Abdullahi specifically mentioned the army, navy and air force for backing archery in Nigeria, while pointing out that their support has improved the growing interest and followership of the sport across the country.

He also highlighted the love for archery sport within the Nigerian military community, which was exemplified by the large turnout and excitement seen during the recent Chief of Defence Staff Archery Championship for Armed Forces.

While noting that this year’s edition witnessed tough contests among various representatives of the army, navy and air force, Abdullahi assured that NAFED will continue to collaborate with the Chief of Defence Staff for the competition.

The acclaimed ‘father of archery’ congratulated all men and officials who took part in various teams for this year’s competition, and enthused that their continued participation will provide sustained development of the sport in Nigeria.

Abdullahi prayed for another successful edition of the annual championship next year, even as the 2026 edition ended with Nigerian Army emerging overall champions with four gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

Nigerian Navy finished second with three gold, five silver and two bronze medals, while third place went to Nigerian Air Force that won three gold, one silver and five bronze medals.
