In light of the recent reshuffling and remodeling of the various federations by the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, Ntiense Williams, popularly called Mr. Rugby shares his delight being recognized and appointed in the Rugby Federation.
“It is privileged to be so recognized by the Sports authority in the Country. The appointment is in a Caretaker capacity for a short period which will midwife the Democratic electoral process towards Electing the next board members for the Rugby Federation,” Williams said.
The board is expected to be inaugurated today in Abuja by the honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Development to ensure that all activities are carried out as initially planned as the different federations look forward to various events.
“The Olympic bound Federations are those who really have much work on their table within this period in question. Meanwhile, Rugby have a Rugby World Cup Preliminary Qualification in Burkinafaso in June and the best players shall be invited to the National Team,” said Williams.
Williams was at the recently concluded National Sports Festival, Edo 2020 and he thanked the organizers as it was a platform to see and look out for talents and good players that can be invited to represent the country, the first Rugby event in the country in two years
“The recently concluded 20th National Sports Festival was a very good platform to see lots of players from the States who attended and the standard was impressively high with some breakout players both male & female. That was the only National Domestic Rugby event in the last 2 years in Nigeria. Once again we sincerely thank Edo State for returning Rugby to the National Sports Festival as an optional sport. That was a huge morale booster for all the players who participated,” he added.
“We will concentrate on encouraging domestic rugby activities coz without Rugby in Nigeria, no one can represent it in any International Championship. Thus we need to dig deep and develop the sports here at home at all costs before venturing outside. We need to reclaim our rightful place within the Rugby Africa setting and move forward,” he concluded.
