Mikel, Ighalo In Chinese League Relegation Battles

Nigeria’s China-based duo, John Mikel Obi and Odion Jude Ighalo are both facing similar shades of relegation fears in the top league.

Added to their woes, sports247.ng reports that Mikel has also been nursing fitness issues, which have limited his outings with Tianjin Teda to the barest, and Ighalo has joined the injury list at Changchun Yatai.

Mikel and Ighalo, though, will take the relegation fears into Sunday’s final day of the Chinese Super League, following divergent results for their respective teams on Wednesday.

Tianjin Teda, who were without their injured captain, Mikel, roared from behind to beat Dalian Yifang 3-1, but they remain 15th on the table with 32 points from 29 matches, while Ighalo’s team have been sucked into the dog fight as a result.

Yatai had to dig deep to draw 2-2 at home against Tianjin Quanjian, after their Nigerian captain, Ighalo was inured in the 17th minute.

Yatai, Chongqing Dangdai Lifan and Dalian Yifang are not safe, as they all have 32 points going into the final game of the season.

Bottom placed Guizhou Zhicheng have already been relegated as they have 21 points, leaving two other spots open, which fears arife could be taken by Mikel and Ighalo’s clubs.
