Meet Peter Matthew, The Young Nigeria Tactician With Ambition To Coach Europe Elite Clubs

The Seamoriow U-20 Super 8 championship has come and gone but the talents that it has produced, players that have been discovered for greater career milestone and coaches who have been singled out for excellence with Peter Matthew standing shoulders tall above everyone speaks all about the objective of the initiative led by Seyi Amos.

Peter Matthew is the coach of finalist team Supreme God House Sports Academy who narrowly lost 2-1 against Seamoriow Sports FC but despite the loss, one can take positives in display of tactical understanding of the game, team pattern and style employed by the coach which obviously stood out in the grassroot tournament.

Sports247.ng caught up with the 28 year old coach as he reveals his plans for the future, his ambitions and what next for the team.

Can we meet you;

“My name is Peter Matthew, from SGH sports Academy. I have been in the team for four years now as a coach and and it has been a great ride so far,” he began.

“Developing the players, participating in several competitions and taking up the challenge upon myself to get better day by day.”

On his motivation to go into coaching;

“My mission in coaching is to achieve attainable heights under strict and regent working procedure while helping in the development of others. This has always been my motivation.”

On his relationship with the players;

To be sincere, it hasn’t been easy but to be at the top and be an example for the young lads, you have to work extra hard and have the motive to excel.”

“But I thank God, so far so good, it’s been going well and we are developing into a great force as a team,” he added.

On the Seamoriow U-20 competition;

“It’s a good platform for the boys and for the coach to develop also which gives room for excellence. It’s not common in grassroots to see atmosphere like this as well as the initiative.”

“The officiating has been spot on and sometimes, when you are on the loosing side, you will want to assume probably the officiating is bad but it’s not like that most times, kudos to all officials and congratulations once again to the eventual winner,” Matthew lauded the effort of the officiating team.

The man Amos Oluwaseyi;

An extremely good man, a philanthropist, a model in the society trying all his best to help raw talents get to the top. Everybody knows him and may God bless him.”

On his future plans and ambitions;

Coaching is not a job I was forced to do, I choose it willingly. I have the desire and zeal to excel in the highest level of this job, leading Europe’s top elite clubs someday.”

“Soon enough, I want to enroll in the NIS to further enhance myself and from there, we will know what’s next,” Matthew revealed of future plans.

“The management of the academy knows this and they have been so helpful in my development, kudos to the chairman for thier contribution to the team,” he concluded.

Despite thier narrow loss in the Seamoriow U-20 Super 8 final, SGH captain, Enoch emerged as the best player of the tournament while the coach of the team emerged as the best coach of the tournament as they ran home with a sum of three hundred thousand naira for finishing second.
