Meet Sultan Adekoya who has always fantasized meeting Nigerian-British boxer, WBO, IBO, WBF Champion- Anthony Joshua, relishing a chance of future hook-ups.
Not long ago, the Minister of Youths and Sports Development picked interest in the boxing sensation following a viral video of him in a fierce training with his Coach popularly called ‘Coach Tipo’.
Since then, Sultan stock’s rose high following close monitoring from the minister over adopting him as he marveled, ‘there is gold in this boy’.
Recently, The LO from the ministry of youth and sports finally caught with the young pugilist, sultan, Tipo his coach, and family in his homestead in Egbeda, Lagos. He was reassured of government support for his education, training, and talent development.
The 10 years old boxer in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng poured all out about his drive for boxing, his parent, coach, education, and failed promises as he admits that he’s well assured that light has finally shone at the end of his tunnel following Sunday Dare’s intervention.
He narrated, “I started boxing when I was very little, five, six years back now despite going to school, am currently in JSS I, and with that, you should know it’s been a while. I just naturally love boxing and I want to keep pushing, this is my lane, where I belong.”
“When I showed my love for this path, my parents were very supportive although I was scared of their disapproval looking at the hazards of the game and the family’s condition, they didn’t object. Even though there was nothing as it seems, they just let me do what I love, they didn’t impose anything on me.”
“I love Anthony Joshua a lot, his moves, pattern are all stylistically same with mine, I have a keen interest in all that he does, and sometimes I go as hard as recreating his stunts, punch throws and all that.”
“My coach deserves all the applause for whatever I become today or in the future, he is so fierce on me, loves me like his own child, and has never given up on me even in the seemingly difficult period.”
On his future aspirations, he said, “I want to be a champion, one who will elevate Nigeria anytime from now, and am ready to take over the world, With the sports minister interest in me, I am very sure this is my breakthrough call even though I have met a lot of people who disappointed.”
Sultan majorly competes in KG category athletes for young lads and has been involved in so many competitions in Lagos state notably, 65 fights overall, 42 knockouts and holds an unbeaten record.
