Mauritius 2022: “I am Satisfied With Our Performance,” Athletics Federation President Says

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Tonobok Okowa has declared that he is “satisfied” with the performance of Team Nigeria at the just concluded Africa Senior Athletics Championship in Mauritius.

Nigeria finished third on the medal’s table behind Kenya and South Africa the same position they finished in Asaba 2018 with a total of 11 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze).

With alot of athletes missing in this year’s Championship due to engagement in the other events in the US, Okowa reteirated that their absence was felt when he was speaking to Making of Champions in Mauritius.

“I’m satisfy with our finish with the young athletes we came with, alot of our athletes could not make it of the NCAA in the US but 5 gold medals, I am happy.”

“It shows we still have work to do, we will go to the drawing board and work more on our young athletes.”

On if the late arrival of athletes affected their performance, the President said “well we had a gap but I would not want to dwell on that, we have resolved that and we are good to go.”

Up next for the federation is the national championship and the president stated the preparedness of the federation.

“Our athletes in the US will be available to compete, it is going to be a good competition between them and the home based and we will get our World championship representatives from there.”

“We will book the best hotels for them, get the best welfare package for them and make sure the championship is satisfying for them.” He finished.
