The Super Eagles of Nigeria smashed 10 goals past minnows Sao Tome and Principe in their 2023 AFCON qualifier on Monday to record their largest win margin in history.

Nigeria dominated the game at the Adrar Stadium in Morocco from start to finish. Striker Victor Osimhen bagged four to make it five goals in two qualifying games, while Moses Simon, Terem Moffi (2), Peter Etebo, Ademola Lookman and Emmanuel Dennis all joined in the scoring.

The last time Nigeria hit double double figures was in a 10-1 drubbing of Dahomey, now Benin Republic in the preliminary round of the Kwame Nkrumah Cup in 1959 in Lagos. Nigeria has now set a new record with this latest victory.

With the 10-0 destruction of Sao Tomé and Principe, the three-time champions of Africa now leads Group A with six points from two games, while Sao Tome remains at the bottom of the standings with zero points. They lost their first game 5-1 to Guinea-Bissau. The Super Eagles continue their campaign against Guinea-Bissau in September.
