Speaking after the match, Silva described Iwobi’s strike as a moment of quality that reflected both the player’s confidence and the team’s growing composure under pressure.
Fulham had just conceded and were facing a hostile atmosphere inside the stadium, but responded immediately with intent and belief.
“It was a great finish from Alex,” Silva said. “At that moment, after we had conceded, we were not only playing against Sunderland but against the whole stadium. The reaction was very important.”
The Fulham boss explained that the timing of the goal shifted the momentum back in his side’s favour, calming nerves and reinforcing the team’s game plan. According to Silva, the way the move was executed showed clarity of thought and discipline from his players.
“When you see goals like that, it means the players are thinking clearly,” he added. “We reacted well, we moved the ball quickly, and Alex finished with confidence.”
Iwobi, who has been enjoying a productive spell in midfield, has grown into a key figure for Fulham, offering creativity, energy and composure in advanced areas. His ability to arrive in dangerous positions has added a new dimension to Silva’s side this season.
Silva also highlighted Fulham’s overall response after conceding, stressing that resilience and belief are becoming trademarks of his team.
“It’s always good when things you work on are executed well,” the manager noted. “The third goal in particular came from good positioning, movement and decision-making.”
The Portuguese tactician went on to commend his players for maintaining focus despite the intensity of the occasion, insisting that such moments define teams pushing for consistency over a long season.
For Iwobi, the goal further underlined his importance to Fulham’s attacking structure, while Silva’s words reinforced the trust the coaching staff has in the Super Eagles midfielder.
“Alex is enjoying his football,” Silva concluded. “When he plays with freedom and responsibility like this, he can be very decisive.”
Fulham will now look to build on the result, with Silva hopeful that performances like Iwobi’s will continue to drive the team forward in the coming weeks.
