In a move to celebrate excellence and promote youth development, Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, as an Ambassador of Enugu State.
The honour was conferred during Okoye’s courtesy visit to the Lion Building, where the Enugu-born football star shared his vision to give back to the community by launching a charitable foundation and establishing a football academy in the state.
Governor Mbah lauded Okoye for his commitment to empowering the next generation, describing him as a “role model for students across the Smart Green Schools” and an inspiration to aspiring footballers and young people in the state.
“Maduka’s story exemplifies resilience and excellence. With proud sons like him, Enugu is truly rising,” the governor remarked.
To support the goalkeeper’s academy project, Mbah pledged land allocation and also extended an invitation for Okoye to participate in the upcoming Enugu International Marathon, which will feature elite athletes from across the globe.
The initiatives by Okoye are expected to bolster grassroots football development and create opportunities for talented youths in Enugu and beyond.
