Super Falcons interim head coach Justine Madugu has clarified his decision to omit star forward Asisat Oshoala from the squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Cameroon.
Speaking on the development, Madugu dismissed suggestions of any controversy surrounding the move, stressing that the exclusion was purely tactical and developmental.
“Asisat is still part of the team, and there should not be any uproar about her exclusion for the upcoming games,” Madugu stated. “It’s a friendly match, and we must allow others to show what they can do.”
The coach emphasized that the technical crew is using the friendly fixtures to assess emerging talents and test new combinations within the squad. According to him, the team is already fully aware of Oshoala’s quality and experience at the highest level.
“We all want the best for the country. We know what she can offer, so the two friendlies are an opportunity for us to see others too. It’s a chance for us to see new things,” he added.
Madugu’s comments underline a broader strategy of squad rotation and evaluation ahead of competitive fixtures, as the Super Falcons look to build depth while maintaining their status as one of Africa’s dominant forces in women’s football.
