Madugu Applauds Super Falcons’ Resolve After Hard-Fought Win Over Cameroon

Interim head coach of the Super Falcons, Justin Madugu, has lauded his team’s performance following their impressive 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in Tuesday’s international friendly played at the M.K.O. Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Sports247 reports.

In what was expected to be a stern test, the Super Falcons delivered a composed and disciplined display, with both goals coming from team captain Rasheedat Ajibade in the first half.

Madugu, addressing the media after the final whistle, commended the players for their dedication and focus against a traditionally difficult opponent.

“Cameroon is never an easy team to play,” Madugu noted, emphasizing the physicality and tactical intelligence of the West African rivals. Despite this, he praised the Falcons for rising to the occasion, showing character and unity throughout the 90 minutes.

However, the coach was quick to temper expectations, stating that the team is still a work in progress. According to him, efforts are being made behind the scenes to improve on key aspects of the Falcons’ play, including decision-making in the final third, positional discipline, and better game management under pressure.

Madugu emphasized that friendly matches like this provide valuable insights, helping the technical crew assess player readiness and fine-tune the team’s tactical approach ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to take place in Morocco next month.

He reiterated the importance of keeping the squad grounded and focused, with more test games and training sessions ahead.

The win over Cameroon is seen as a morale booster as Nigeria builds momentum ahead of a crucial summer. With a game against Portugal next on the calendar, Madugu believes the Falcons are heading in the right direction, crediting the players’ hard work, commitment, and hunger to succeed in national colors.
