LSFA Chairman Gafar in Cloud Nine, Calls For More Cooperate Support as Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos Seal Historic Nigeria Premier Football League Promotion

The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has celebrated a landmark moment for football in the state following the promotion of Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

In a statement released on Thursday, LSFA Chairman Hajji Gafar described the achievement as a turning point, noting that Lagos will once again boast strong representation in Nigeria’s topflight through privately-run, modern football clubs.

“This is a significant milestone for football in Lagos,” Gafar said. “For the first time in many years, the state will be represented by dynamic, privately-operated clubs in the NPFL, reintroducing elite football to the Centre of Excellence.”

Sporting Lagos, widely known as the “Tech Boys,” completed a remarkable rise from their founding in 2022 to reaching the top tier in just four years. Their journey, according to Gafar, reflects a blend of innovation, structured planning, and a vibrant fan culture that has redefined matchday experiences in Nigerian football.

Inter Lagos, dubbed the “Pride of Lagos,” earned equal praise for their disciplined approach and strong grassroots connections. Gafar highlighted the club’s commitment to youth development and professionalism as key drivers behind their success.

“The LSFA commends the players, coaches, and management of both clubs. Competing in the Nigeria National League requires consistency, dedication, and belief—qualities both teams displayed throughout the season,” he added.
Beyond results on the pitch, the LSFA noted that both clubs have raised standards off it.

From improved digital engagement and ticketing systems to community outreach and youth programs, Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos have emerged as models for the evolution of club football in Nigeria.

Their promotion is also expected to reignite local rivalries and boost economic activity around match venues such as Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, offering fans regular access to top-tier football.
Gafar called on corporate bodies, sponsors, and stakeholders to support the clubs as they prepare for the financial and logistical demands of life in the NPFL.
He also reserved special praise for the supporters, whose energy and loyalty played a vital role in the promotion push.

“To the fans, this victory belongs to you. Your passion lifted these teams. Keep that spirit alive in the NPFL—fill the stadiums and continue to represent Lagos with pride,” he said.

Gafar concluded by describing both clubs as symbols of Lagos’ ambition and innovation, urging them to carry the state’s aspirations boldly into their new chapter in Nigeria’s topflight.
