As anticipation builds ahead of the Super Eagles’ first match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, controversial cleric and spiritual leader, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a prophetic warning concerning team selection and player usage.
Speaking ahead of the crucial Group-stage opener, Primate Ayodele cautioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles’ technical crew against fielding Ademola Lookman, claiming his involvement could negatively affect the team’s progress in the tournament.

According to the cleric, allowing Victor Osimhen to play the full 90 minutes could also be detrimental to Nigeria’s chances.
“Osimhen should not play 90 minutes; Lookman is not meant to play, as he won’t help them,” Primate Ayodele was quoted as saying.
The outspoken prophet, known for his frequent predictions on Nigerian football and major sporting events, suggested that strategic player management would be key to the Super Eagles’ success at the tournament.
Ayodele’s comments have already sparked mixed reactions among fans and analysts, especially considering Ademola Lookman’s impressive performances for both club and country in recent seasons, as well as Osimhen’s status as Nigeria’s leading striker and talisman.
While the Super Eagles’ coaching crew has yet to respond to the prophecy, team officials have consistently maintained that selections will be based on fitness, form, and tactical requirements, rather than external opinions.
Nigeria will be hoping to begin their AFCON 2025 campaign on a strong note as they chase a fourth continental title, with pressure mounting on the team to deliver following recent near-misses on the African stage.
Whether Primate Ayodele’s prophecy will influence public debate or prove prophetic once again remains to be seen when the Super Eagles take to the pitch.
