Atletico Madrid of Spain’s January signing, Ademola Lookman has been praised for making ‘the right choice’ in dumping an offer from Fenerbahçe of Turkey while deciding to join the Spanish side instead.
Sports247 reports that Lookman caused a stir of sort when he abruptly pulled out of a lucrative deal at Fenerbahçe in preference for a less expensive contract at Atletico, but he has now been hailed for making that choice.
The commendation is coming from former Super Eagles’ defender, Godwin Okpara (aka Alan Ball), who reckoned that the 2024 African Footballer of The Year was smart in pulling out of Fener’s offer.
Okpara told Footy Africa, “When you look at Fenerbahce, and look at Atletico Madrid. Even a blind person would not choose Fenerbahce. Not that it’s not a good league. It’s a good league.
“But exposure is where you want to improve your game, where the whole world will see you. This is the league. This is the right league for him to go to. People all over the world are watching La Liga.
“Nobody would take Fenerbahçe rather than going to Atletico Madrid. So, it’s the right choice. They know themselves that Lookman will not come. I’m very happy for him. And it’s good for our nation.”
